Movie Review: Despicable Me

An absolutely adorable movie that every family should see. Besides the quirky and fun one liners (i.e. It's so FLUFFY!!!!) there is an honest and cute story underneath. Despicable Me is about a Super Villain who is trying to come up with the best hijacking out of all super villains (he is trying to one up the other villain). He decides to steal the moon with a shrink gun, but he has to steal it from the other villain. By making a plot that involves his cute little yellow minions and adopting three little girls he successfully achieves his goal but realizes that family is more important. My only downside to this movie is that it was in 3D. I am not a big fan of 3D and think this movie would be just as good in 2D. I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Movie Review: The Ugly Truth

An ABSOLUTE must see movie!!! The Ugly Truth stars Katherine Heigel and Gerard Butler in a romantic comedy that will have to laughing and smiling through the whole show time. Katherine plays Abby that is a producer of a Morning show. Gerard plays Mike a new raunchy hire by Abby's boss. Mike tells it like it is when it comes to relationships and in order to "keep" his job he begins to help Abby catch her really hot neighbor doctor, Colin, played by Eric Winter.
While he is teaching her how to flirt and helping her catch the guy, he begins to fall for Abby but does not tell her this. Just like in any romantic comedy when it comes down to the end, Mike leaves and moves to another station while they both fight feelings for each other. In the end they come back together and live happily ever after :) Gets a 5 out of 5 from me!

Movie Review: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

When I watched the first Transformers, I did not pay a lot of attention to the movie, but I got the gist and understood what the point was (I think it also helped that Transformers were a huge toy when I was growing up and thanks to an older brother I got to know them very well). When I went to see the second movie I wanted to really watch it because all my friends loved it. I on the other hand, found myself looking at my cell phone to check the time a lot. It was a good movie and the special effects were beyond amazing (I wish I could watch it in 3D just to see how much better it would look), but I felt that the movie took way too long and dragged on and on. It took almost the two hours to explain what the last 30 minutes were all about. If I watched the very beginning and fast forwarded to the end I would have been a happy camper.
This movie is a continuation of the first Transformers which was released in 2007. It follows Sam Witwicky (Shia Lebeouf) and his girlfriend, Mikaela (Megan Fox) and the good guys as they battle Decepticon again. In the end, they save the day and everyone lives (even Optimus Prime). They also left the movie open for a third which I think is a good idea, but I hope that it is not longer than this one. I give this movie 3 1/2 out of 5 because they length was way too long.

Movie Review: The Proposal

The Proposal is a great movie for both sexes. It has enough romance for the females and enough comedy for the males. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds do an amazing job of portraying a "couple" who visit Ryan's family in Alaska for the weekend. Ryan's character, Andrew, is an assistant for Margaret, Sandra Bullocks character. They have to pretend they are a couple and get married so that Margaret can stay in the United States and keep her high profile job (her native country is Canada and her visa has run out.) While on their weekend getaway to Alaska, Margaret realizes that Andrew is not just some low class writer trying to make it in the writing world, but actually is wealthy and is writing and working for her because that is his dream in life. She also learns of family traditions and what it means to have a family (Margaret's parents died when she was little and she has no other family.) Of course like any romantic comedy there is always a twist at the end and after the two have really fallen in love (but neither will tell the other one) they end their engagement before the wedding can continue. Margaret heads home to New York to pack for Canada while Ryan stays back in Alaska trying to decide what to do. Again, in any romantic comedy the boy goes after the girl and they live happily ever after. I give this movie a 5 out of 5 because not only is it cute, but it is really funny too!

Movie Review: The Hangover

HILARIOUS! It is a must see, it is not a movie that you will waste your money on at all. It is so worth the price. You will laugh the entire time. The Hangover is about a group of friends that head out to Vegas two days before one of their buddy's wedding to have the best bachelor party ever. The only problem is that when they wake up, they cannot remember what happened and they lost the groom. The movie shows their adventures of trying to find their friend while hitting road blocks along the way. I give this movie a 5 out of 5 and cannot wait to buy it when it comes to DVD. If you have not seen it, you must.

Movie Review: Up

Up is a Disney Pixar feature film that follows the journey of an older man named Carl and a young boy named Russell as they travel to South America to visit Paradise Falls. This movie has a running time of a little over an hour and a half and it was enjoyable. It did lack the adult humor that some children movies have but in the end it had it's heart warming point that every parent wants their child to learn. Don't hold on to the past and live in the present. Save nothing for tomorrow and do it today. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Movie Review: Bride Wars

This movie starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway is a must see for all of you romantic comedy chicks. It was hilarious and fun all at the same time. It was released in January of 2009, and has just recently come out to DVD. If you have not seen it, I suggest it to you for a girls night. Get the popcorn and martinis ready you're in for laughs that will make your stomach hurt. I give it a 5 out of 5.

Movie Review: The Soloist

This past Tuesday, I won early screening tickets to see The Soloist starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx and directed by Joe Wright (Atonement). It follows a journalist, Steve Lopez (Downey), for the L.A. Times on his journey of finding short pieces to write. He ends up meeting Nathanial Anthony Ayers Jr. (Foxx) as he is walking around one day in L.A. He listens to his music and learns that Mr. Ayers attended Juilliard. Lopez becomes fascinated with Mr. Ayers and starts writing pieces about him. He also starts learning about his past and how he fell in love with music. Mr. Lopez also starts to learn the Ayers sufferers from schizophrenia and that is why he was never able to graduate or perform his music. Ayers denies his schizophrenia and it only flares up when he is about to perform for an audience or is in an experience where his schizophrenia has heightened in his past. 

The movie portrays the friendship and bond between these two characters and it has a heart felt feeling throughout the movie. It shows the importance of never giving up on someone and always being there just to be a friend. I enjoyed this movie, however I felt that it did drag on a bit. The run time is two hours and the cast is excellent. My favorite scene is when Ayers and Lopez are sitting at a rehearsal for the L.A. Symphony and the movie shows you how Ayers sees the music. It is fascinating. I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.

Reviews!!!!

So being on break from school has given me quite a bit of free time and I am really enjoying it. So I got to go to a couple of movies as well as play some new games and I am here to tell you what I think about them. First the game called Partini...okay so I have not honestly played this one with a group yet, but I was reading some cards and playing some of the things with my sister and we are excited to get a group together to play it. So far a 5 out 5 on my scale. Do remember with this game it needs to have partners and a group of people who are hanging out, works well for a couples night. Second game I received as a Christmas gift was called Identity Crisis. This game is a lot of fun. The object is to identify the a celebrity based on either a numerous amount of clues or one clue depending on the round. We had so much fun playing this game on Christmas Day. This is definitely a 5 out of 5. The last game I wanted to review is called Last Word. At first it was confusing but once everyone got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. It is fun to see what people come up with for the subjects and the letters given. I also give this a 5 out of 5. I also saw movies over the break and the first one I saw was Four Christmases. I absolutely loved this movie. It was a romantic comedy and it was so cute, if my family was the way Reese Witherspoon's and Vince Vaughn's families were, I would do the same thing. The length was perfect and the one liners and scenes were great to watch, I give this movie a 5 out of 5 and recommend it for anyone who is going on a date. The second movie I saw was 7 Pounds. At first, I was skeptical to see it, however at the end I was glad that I did. It is a great drama and Will Smith was perfect for the part. I give this a 5 out of 5 and recommend for anyone who loves drama.
